Unclaimed money has become a major issue for many Americans. If you have not yet checked to see if you have money that you were not aware of, you should consider doing so. You may be able to claim it for a fee.

    Michigan

This year’s unclaimed property auction in Delta Township is set to take place on the weekend of November 18-19. In addition to the moneybags, the state of Michigan also holds several million dollars in uncashed checks, safe deposit box properties and stock certificates.

If you’ve stumbled upon a few millions of your own, you’ll want to act fast. The Department of Treasury will be taking bids on such items. It’s also a good idea to check your safe deposit box to see if any of your treasures have been snatched away.

The Department of Treasury’s online lost and found page has a treasure trove of unclaimed properties in its purview. You can search the database for free. Using your zip code or business name, you can narrow your results to a more targeted locale.

From there, you can get started on your quest for a cash windfall. One of the most intriguing aspects of the program is that many items are held on a secure network, allowing you to keep your information private.

    Florida

When it comes to unclaimed money in Florida, you’re probably better off putting your money where your mouth is than trying to find it. Luckily, there are many websites and programs designed to help you reclaim your cash. And the good news is, it’s free!

In fact, one in five residents of Florida is likely to have unclaimed property sitting in a bank account, safe deposit box or other repositories.

These assets are often the result of abandoned or forgotten bank accounts, expired insurance policies, forgotten utility bills, and lost or unclaimed paychecks.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. A recent survey by the Florida Department of Financial Services found that $388 million in unclaimed money was returned to Floridians in 2021.

While it’s not quite as straightforward as the old standby of a check in the mail, the Department of Financial Services does a good job of putting your money where your mouth is. You can start the process by completing a form online, or by calling the toll-free number.

Check if you have unclaimed money

If you’ve lost your phone, wallet or checkbook, you may have unclaimed money. These funds can be found in various categories, including payroll checks, uncashed bank accounts, utility bills, security deposits, insurance proceeds and more.

The State Treasurer’s office in Colorado estimates that one in 10 individuals have unclaimed property. They will hold on to the funds until someone claims them.

Unclaimed funds are usually from dormant bank accounts, security deposits and uncashed checks. You can also find unclaimed money from utility bill refunds and government payments to vendors.

You can use the online form below to search for your unclaimed funds. Once you have a list, you can find out how to claim it. To be eligible for a payment, you need to provide your name, the method of payment and the date you expect the money to be paid. Some people may need to have a notary sign the claim form.

The State Treasurer’s office makes the process easy. The site allows you to enter your name, city and zip code to narrow the search. After you’ve entered your details, the claim form will be sent to your email.
