Kansas currently has over 350 million in unclaimed property that is waiting to be returned to its rightful owner. While this may appear to be a significant sum, it is insignificant compared to the entire quantity of property available in the United States.
According to the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA), an organization dedicated to assisting goods owners in locating and claiming their lost or abandoned property, the total value of unclaimed property in the United States is currently over $42 billion. Furthermore, in recent years, Kansas has returned about a quarter of all available unclaimed property to actual owners, thanks in part to increased outreach and education about the state’s unclaimed property program by the Kansas treasurer.
