Missing money florida that’s what some people might be thinking after a $44 million lottery ticket that had been sold in the state expired at midnight last night without anyone claiming it.

According to WESH-TV, the winning ticket was purchased on June 14 at Sunco Express in Kissimmee.

Sunoco Express owner Navjeet Khela was taken aback upon learning his store had sold the winning lottery ticket.

Khela told WESH she was taken aback when she received the phone call early morning from an insurance agent about the windfall of over one hundred thousand dollars in benefits. “This is truly substantial money.”

What happens to unclaimed lottery money in Florida?

Due to unclaimed money, 80% of them will go toward Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund to improve education across the state.

The remaining 20% will be returned to the prize pool and used toward future drawings.

Even though no one claimed the ticket, the store will still receive a percentage.

WESH reports that since the lotto first debuted in the 1980s, at least 30 jackpots have gone unclaimed.

When do Florida lottery tickets expire?

Florida Lottery winning tickets must be collected within 180 days, or six months from the date of drawing.

Florida Lottery Scratch-Off and Fast Play game prizes must be claimed within 60 days from the official end-of-game date.

After this time period has lapsed, the ticket will become invalid and no longer allow claim of funds.
