Treasurer Steven Johnson, who oversees Kansas’ unclaimed property program, revealed on September 6th that nearly 500 million dollars remains unclaimed property that needs to be claimed from his office’s database. To help reduce this figure and facilitate faster access for people attending Kansas State Fair events, Johnson encourages everyone attending to visit Booth 85/86 Meadowlark Building during fair dates to check whether any unclaimed items exist that need claiming from his database.

According to Johnson, an estimated one out of every 10 people possess unclaimed property — such as unpaid life insurance benefits, unlocked safe deposit boxes or long forgotten bank accounts.

If you cannot attend the fair, the database can be searched at any time here. Even if you do not possess unclaimed property, stop by the State Treasurer’s booth for a chance at winning $529 towards opening a Learning Quest 529 account!

Johnson stated, “We are delighted to bring the State Treasurer’s Office back to the Kansas State Fair once more this year and invite all fairgoers to visit our booth in Meadowlark Building and use our Kansas Unclaimed Property Search or enter our Giveaway for a chance at winning $529 into a Learning Quest 529 education savings account for themselves or someone they care about.”

Treasurer Steven Johnson noted that College Savings Month coincides with the State Fair and his office is commemorating this event with an information booth dedicated to programs like Learning Quest 529 Plan, KIDS Match Grant Program, ABLE Saving Plan Plan and First-Time Home Buyer Saving Accounts; for more details please visit their treasurer’s website HERE.

Kansas State Fair will kick off on Friday, Sept. 8, and run through Sunday, Sept. 17.
