Utah residents who are looking for unclaimed money in utah now have another way of accessing it, thanks to Utah Treasurer Marlo Oaks and her division, Utah Unclaimed Property Division. Together they announced this week a program specifically for unclaimed property that could help reunite you with it.
Utah had to search the official state website for unclaimed money if their name appeared on its list and file a claim to claim their funds.
But with MyCash Now program, individuals oweing less than $2,000 can relax knowing their check will arrive shortly in the mail.
“More money will return to its rightful owners with less hassle and fraud,” Oaks told KSL NewsRadio.
A bill passed during the 2023 Utah Legislative Session enabled this program to come together. It works by connecting Utah Tax Commission and Unclaimed Property Division securely so they can pass information back and forth securely.
How does Utah’s new unclaimed money program work?
If your bank account or insurance check are dormant or unclaimed, the division will notify you by mail. They’ll ask you to verify your personal information before sending a check if an agency or company owes you $2,000 or less.
But if an agency or company owes you more than $2,000, filing a claim could be necessary in order to recover it.
If you owe money and have moved, contact the Utah Unclaimed Property Division with proof of your new address to arrange delivery of a check to it.
