Unclaimed Money Louisiana treasury: BATON ROUGE (LA). John M. Schroder, Louisiana State Treasurer, announced today that 27,125 Unclaimed Property checks worth $4.8 million had been mailed. This was after a data match to verify addresses. Every parish in the state will receive reviews.

Treasurer Schroder stated that if you receive a check from the Louisiana Department of Treasury next week, it is real money, and you can cash it immediately.

He said, “And, even if you don’t get a check, it is possible that you still owe unclaimed money.” We can’t give all the money back this way, but at least $4.8 million. To verify your identity and file a claim, please visit LaCashClaim.org.

Louisiana Department of Treasury Operates Unclaimed Property

Unclaimed Money Louisiana Treasury

The Louisiana Department of Treasury has been conducting an annual data sharing to find updated addresses of Louisiana residents to allow them to return Unclaimed Property checks immediately. The 2018 Regular Session Act 339 allows the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the Treasury to share their database of correct addresses to return Unclaimed Property. The Treasury can update the addresses in its file annually and clear any unclaimed property.

Louisiana Treasury is using technology to increase the rate at which Unclaimed Property is returned. There is more than $900 million in unclaimed property. Treasury can use data matches to update addresses and send checks for money many recipients did not know they owed.

Businesses turn over millions in unclaimed cash and stocks, bonds, securities, or insurance proceeds to the State Treasurer’s Office every year. These funds are known as “Unclaimed Property” and include old bank accounts, payroll checks, royalty payments, utility deposits, interest payments, stock certificates, life insurance proceeds, and stock certificates. Sometimes the company’s address is incorrect. An incorrect or outdated address is one of the most common reasons an item becomes unclaimed.

Louisiana Unclaimed Property Division claims $900 on an average of one in six people. Search at www.LaCashClaim.org to find out if your Unclaimed Property is available. You can also call the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division toll-free at 1-888-924-4127, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
