Kansas State Treasurer Steven Johnson said there is over $500 million worth of kansas unclaimed money or property sitting across the state. Once again, the Kansas State Fair will feature the Kansas Treasurer’s Office and their Meadowlark Building booth will allow fairgoers to search the unclaimed database.

Kansans visiting this office have the chance to win $529 into a Learning Quest 529 education savings account for themselves or someone they love.

One out of 10 people may possess unclaimed money, including unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and safe deposit boxes. Kansans can search the online database by clicking here.

Kansas State Fair will kick off on Friday, Sept 8 and run through Sunday, Sept 17 in Hutchinson.

Clouds will become more prevalent across southern Kansas today and any thinning clouds could give way to fog overnight, particularly from central to eastern Kansas.

Starting Thursday afternoon, another system moving southward will impact portions of our viewing area, with its initial impact in southwest Kansas and Oklahoma Panhandle.

Thursday evening through Friday morning is when we will see most of the energy and moisture enter our viewing area, potentially producing snow accumulation near and south of this major interstate.

As temperatures warm up on Friday afternoon, rain will mix with the snow at times but this event should primarily bring snow for Kansas with more precipitation occurring near the Kansas/Oklahoma state line and further south.

Clouds will remain persistent this weekend, keeping temperatures well below average for this time of year. An even stronger storm system arrives next Monday and Tuesday; its plan includes both rain and snowfall with snowfall possibly occurring based on current trends.

At the end of next week, another brief snowfall is possible – possibly light and quick-hitting; temperatures should remain well below the norm throughout this week.
